The Garage Model

The cloud made LLMs impressive. The laptop made them personal.

Georgi Gerganov's llama.cpp matters because it changed the feel of the technology. Suddenly, running a model locally was not only a lab trick. It was something a developer could try, break, tune, and understand on their own machine.

That changes agent design.

Local models can sit closer to private data. They can survive network constraints. They can be cheap enough for experiments that would never make it into a cloud budget.

The frontier still matters.

So does the garage.
